We believe you should be able to read a label and understand it. In that spirit, here is an honest look inside our Mineral Foundation, ingredient by ingredient, and why each one is there.
A formula built on crushed minerals
Our Mineral Foundation is made from finely milled minerals rather than water and oil. That is what gives it a light, breathable feel and buildable, sheer-to-medium coverage. A little goes a long way, and one to two light layers is usually all you need for a natural, even finish.
The minerals doing the main work are the same ones behind most mineral makeup:
-
Mica and sericite give the soft, natural finish and smooth application.
-
Iron oxides are the pigments. They are why the foundation comes in a range designed to suit many skin tones.
-
Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide add coverage and a soft, even look. Zinc oxide is also the gentle, soothing mineral we love for its long history on sensitive skin.
The botanical extras
What we like most about this formula is that the minerals are not alone. The jar also includes a few skin-friendly botanicals:
-
Aloe barbadensis leaf extract, long valued for its calming feel.
-
Green tea extract, a well-known botanical antioxidant.
-
Goji berry extract, another plant extract used in beauty for its antioxidant content.
-
Vitamin C, in the form of sodium ascorbate.
We want to be honest here. These are lovely, thoughtful additions, but a foundation is makeup, not a skincare treatment. We include them because they make a nice formula nicer, not because a powder will transform your skin. Your serums and moisturisers do the deeper work. This simply lets you wear something kinder on top.
What it leaves out
Our Mineral Foundation is formulated without talc, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, bismuth, and gluten, and it is cruelty-free. Leaving out bismuth oxychloride is a deliberate choice, since it can irritate some sensitive and acne-prone skin.
How to wear it
The method is the classic mineral one. Tap a small amount into the lid, swirl a clean brush to pick up the product, tap off the excess, and buff into the skin in small circular motions. A synthetic kabuki brush gives fuller coverage, while a flat-top face brush is great for a quick, even layer. Start light and build only where you want more.
Who it suits
Because the formula is simple, talc-free, and bismuth-free, it tends to suit people who want a natural, breathable finish, including those with sensitive or reactive skin. If your skin is very reactive, it is always wise to patch test first.
The takeaway
Our Mineral Foundation is a short, honest ingredient list built on minerals, with a few gentle botanicals for good measure. No mystery, no hype, just crushed minerals that let your skin look like skin. That is exactly how we like it.
